10/19/2009 10:47:58 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said his government is in constant touch with the Karnataka Government over why two cricketers from his state were detained on alleged terrorism charges in Bangalore on Saturday.
Abdullah claimed that cricketer Pervez Rasool was being made a scapegoat and was arrested mistakenly.
"It is not that we are silent on this, we have been on the job the moment we received the news about the arrest. There was some defect in the machine and Parvez was made a scapegoat," Abdullah said.
"We have spoken to different states that they should be sensitive while dealing with such cases because already there are various wounds, which are still row," he added.
Rasool, part of the J and K under-22 cricket team was in Bangalore to play the C K Nayadu tournament, when he was detained.
Bangalore Police interrogated Rasool after traces of explosives were allegedly found in his kit bag but was subsequently released due to lack of evidence.
The incident created shock waves among the organizers of ongoing Champions League Twenty20 matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Meanwhile, Rasool's brother Asif alleged that Bangalore Police detained his brother for objecting to use of sniffer dogs to check the bag, which had the holy Quran in it.
