| Wajahat headed for J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 20: The seasoned hand on Jammu and Kashmir, Wajahat Habibullah is all set to return to his home cadre as Chief Information Commissioner. Until now Chief Information Commissioner of India, the senior bureaucrat Wajahat Habibullah has resigned to take up his new assignment as RTI watchdog in Jammu and Kashmir. "Yes, I have submitted my resignation to the President (Pratibha Patil) and I am awaiting its acceptance," Habibullah said. In Jammu where the winter secretariat is set to move early next month, the government has hired a building for the office of Information Commission in Shastri Nagar where Habibullah will take over. "After acceptance, I will decide when to take over the new assignment," Habibullah, 1968-batch IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, said. He said his experience as the first Chief Information Commissioner of India was "quite enriching" and he would use his experience while performing the new task in the state. About his joining the CIC in J and K, 64-year-old Habibullah, the first chief of the transparency watchdog Central Information Commission in 2005, said he hoped to live up to expectations of the people. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's move to bring him is seen as a filip to transparency movement in the state. After taking over as the Chief Minister in January this year, Omar listed implementation of the state's version of Right to Information Act as one of his priorities. Habibullah had served in various capacities in the state during 1968-82 and was again posted there for brief periods.
