| Saroori inaugurates workshop on new building material RBI-81 at Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, OCTOBER 20 Minister for R&B, Mr G M Saroori today inaugurated one day workshop on Road Building International (RBI)-81.
Commissioner/Secretary, R&B, Mr Mehboob Iqbal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Superintendent Engineer, R&B, Mr P L Bhushan and senior officers of administration were present in the meeting.
.It is worth mentioning here that the Road Building International, a reputed road constructing agency has introduced a new road building material named RBI grade-81. It is unique and innovative product that was developed for the stabilization of a wide spectrum of soils in an efficient, least-cost manner. RBI grade 81 is an environment friendly, inorganic, hydration activated powder-based stabilizer that reacts with soil particles to create layers that are interconnected through a complex inter-particle framework.
Mr. Saroori exhorted upon the engineer to examine the viability of this new product RBI-81 in the contest of our state and convey their suggestions on the use for this new material so that the same can be used for constructing durable roads. For this he said that the RBI will construct 1 km road length as a sample for demonstration and after getting the sample testing and other requisite formalities the product will be given green signal of go ahead for the construction of modern roads.
He said that coalition government is making all out efforts to connect to every nook and corner of the state with nearest headquarters in providing road connectivity and government has approved Rs.30 crore each for Jammu and Kashmir regions for up gradating and maintenance of dilapidated roads so that the people do not face any inconvenience. Interacting with officers, Mr Saroori asked the officers to complete to macadimization work in the entire city before 31st of October 2009. He directed the UEED and ERA authorities to handover city roads after completing digging and other works to R&B department for blacktopping.
The RBI engineers apprised the Minister regarding the qualities of the new material RBI-81 and said that this material when mixed with fine aggregated material will increase the durability of the roads constructed. The RBI Grade 81’s ability to react with a wide range of soil types and under different soil conditions eliminates the requirement for multiple stabilizers for a given project. Results of many applications both in-situ and in laboratories have consistently proven that the success of the resultant stabilized layer is not jeopardized through changes in the soil type. Clay, silt, said and gravel based soils can all be stabilized with a single product.
