PUC asks Govt to resolve SRTC impasse

Srinagar, Oct 21- A meeting of Public Undertaking Committee of Legislative Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Member Legislative Assembly, Mr. A. R. Veeri here today.
The meeting was attended by the legislators, Mr. Mohammad Yasin, Mr. Jugal Kishore, Mir Zahoor Ahmed, Mr. Charanjeet Singh and Mr. Abdul Gaffar Sofi and Secretary Transport, Mr. K. B. Jandial, Director Accounts and Treasuries and senior officers of Legislative Council, Accountant General office Transport.
Threadbare discussions were held with regard to various issues concerning CAG’s Audit Para’s 2002-03, problems and grievances of the employees of the SRTC.
The Committee was informed that the government has assured the employees of the corporation that five months salary will be released in their favour and hopeful that the employees will call off their strike immediately. Secretary, Transport informed the Committee that the government is serious about the difficulties and problems of the employees but they should come forward with positive attitude. The Chairman directed the concerned officers of Transport Department to look into the genuine demands of the employees of SRTC. Veeri directed the concerned to conduct reconciliation on monthly basis. The Committee decided that CAG’s Audit Para 2002-03 regarding failure of the corporation to follow proper procedure for issuing mechanical inspection certificates has been dropped. Responding the issue raised by MLA Mir Zahoor regarding immediate release of gratuity and leave salary to the retiree employees of the corporation, the Sectary said that the pension benefits are given to the retirees on first cum first serve basis and in case of death cases, the same be paid on top priority.
