| Ganderbal, Rajouri to be brought MNREGA scheme | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, OCT 21: The districts of Ganderbal and Rajouri have been identified as the pilot districts for convergence of various forestry schemes to be taken under the MNREGA. This was decided at the meeting regarding convergence of NEREGA with forestry held today under the chairmanship of the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayats Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar. The Minister for Forest Mian Altaf Ahmad was also present in the meeting. The meeting was told that the main objective for convergence of MNEREGA under forestry scheme is to restore ecological balance by aforestation, plantation, land development drought proofing renovation of traditional water bodies besides boosting the rural economy by providing employment to them. It was also decided in the meeting that a committee would be formed of the officers of forest and rural development department which would identify the areas to be taken under the rural development schemes. Sagar impressed upon the officers to make state specific pilot projects under which the maximum benefit can be availed by the people living in rural and far-flung areas besides contributing their mite in the conservation of ecology. He further asked the officers to be liberal in the dispensation of funds under various heads. He further asked the officers to launch a massive publicity campaign about MNREGA and its utility in area development and provision of employment to the people.
