Glowing tributes paid to ‘Father of Nation’, on his birth anniversary

JAMMU OCT-02 Glowing tributes were paid to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 137th birth anniversary here today. To mark the observance of the day several functions were held by various political and non- governmental organizations where rich tributes were paid to Gandhi Ji and late Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri.
As a mark of the observance of the day, Jammu and Kashmir Trade Union Congress organized an impressive rally at the official residence of veteran Congress leader and Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Rama Sharma.
Addressing the well attended gathering Sharma highlighted the valuable role played by the Father of the Nation in getting the Indian masses free from the shackles of the British Rulers by adopting the doctrine of non-violence adding that this strategy has now been adopted all over the world to get freedom and achieve the desired goals.
Paying glowing tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the Congress leader said that the best way to pray tributes to the great visionary would be to follow his ideals of non-violence, brotherhood and community amity.
Sharma also paid rich tributes to late PM Shastri and said his slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kissan’ has given strength to the Nation.
Sewa Ram Sharma President JKTUC paying floral tributes to Bapu ji and late Shastri highlighted the problems confronting the PSUs in the state and called upon the government to tackle these on war footing.
Camres David JKTUC spokesman, Jagmohan Sadhotra H S Jasrotia, Kasturi Lal Kaushal Sharma,Vasudev Singh , Bakshi Singh Charanjeet Singh and several other trade union leaders also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the life of Bapu Ji.
As a part of the celebrations a function was also held at Poonch which was presides over by Zaffarullah .
The speakers paid rich tributes to both Gandhi Ji and Shastri on this occasion and recalled their services for bettering the lot of the Indian masses.
PCC General Secretary Yash Paul Sharma, Mohammed Zaman, Ashwani Ghai, Rajinder Singh Kaka, Mohammed Yusuf, Mohammed Sharif, Nazir Ahmed, Mohammed Din, Ashiq Hussain also spoke on the occasion.
Congress Seva Dal District Jammu Urban also celebrated the Day by organizing a function at Mubarak Mandi Park, where B S Sambyal was the chief guest. A large number of Seva Dal workers attended the meeting to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.
Addressing the gathering Sambyal appealed the frustrated youth to give up the path of violence and follow the ideals of Gandhi Ji and vowed to maintain communal harmony, secularisms and brotherhood and fight for the cause of the teeming millions.
PCC General Secretary Vinod Sharma also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the steps taken by the UPA Chairperson, PM and the State Chief Minister for the welfare of the people irrespective of caste, creed or colour.
Sahib Nai Lone recalled the contribution of the Congress Seva Dal and freedom fighters during the freedom movement.
Several senior Seva Dal leaders were present on the occasion.
An impressive function was held at PCC headquarters to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti .The function presided over by Om Prakash Chopra ex-MLA and President DDC Jammu Urban was attended by large number of Congress leaders and workers.
Health and Medical Education Minister Mangat Ram Sharma was the chief guest.
In his address Sharma said that Gandhi Ji was a dominant figure on the Indian political scene from the pioneering days of the freedom struggle to the day of Independence. He said Gandhi ji’s simplicity and commitment to the nation influenced millions of people both within and outside the country and his doctrine of non-violence has been acclaimed all over the globe.
‘Saying that violence has no place in the human society’, Sharma said all problems could be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Om Chopra threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi and called upon the people to follow the ideals of late leader.
Senior Vice President PCC Dharam Pala Sharma, Vice President Parduman Singh MLC, General Secretaries Th Hari Singh, Th Shiv Dev Singh, Kanta Bhan, Indu Pawar, G M Saroori, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Raval Matoo, Amolak Singh, Bharat Gandhi. Shiv Kumar Sharma , Dalvinder Singh Sambyal, Man Mohan Singh, Uttam Singh, Bansi Lal Gupta, Corporator, A K Sehgal. Nazir Ahmed, Kirtan Singh, Jagan Nath., Rajinder Singh Pinki, Rajni Bala, J L Koul, Deepak Jangral, Mohinder Kumar Panotra, Navinder Sharma, Shanti Vaid also spoke on the occasion.
Satyug Nirman Sanstha also organized a function at Shiv Durga Mandir Resham Ghar colony here to celebrate Gandhi Jyanti
Rattan Lal Gupta President Tax Bar Association and Jugal Mahjan Chief Warden Civil Defence were the chief guests.
On this occasion the organization distributed sweets amongst the students of the Bright Future School, the venue of the function. The speakers threw light on the life of Bapu ji and inspired the people in general and the student community in particular to imbibe the Gandhian philosophy in their day- to- day life.
Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj and Sadbhavana-ke- Sipahi also organized a function at Mubarik Mandi where rich tributes were paid to the Father of the Nation.
The students of University of Jammu under the leadership of President National Conference Gurdeep Singh Pandey also organized a function, which was attended by the students of different departments.
In his address Gurdeep stressed upon the need to follow the footsteps and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and said that his teachings have more relevance today when the country especially the State is facing threat of terrorism. He called upon the student community to follow the path of ‘Ahimsa’ shown by the Father of the Nation.
Rotary Club Jammu also celebrated the Gandhi Jyanti at Rotary Inner Wheal Home for mentally retarded children where the President Rtn. Jatinder Gandhock garlanded the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
On this occasion fruit and sweets were distributed among the children of the home, being sponsored and promoted by the Rotary Club.
