BJP opposes Wajahat as SIC chief
10/21/2009 11:15:34 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu Oct 21
Strongly opposing the appointment of Wajahat Habibullah as Head of the State Information Commission (SIC) for finding his name in many controversies including asking for US mediation in J&K in 2004, the state unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has asked the coalition government to fill up the post by any citizen of Jammu and Kashmir with good credentials.
This was stated by BJP State President Ashok Khajuria while expressing his party’s grave concern over assignment of such an important post to a person whose past record has all along been doubtful and who also worked against the unity and integrity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Khajuria reminded the state authorities for his many controversies including his suggestion of asking for US mediation in Jammu & Kashmir in 2004. "Why the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah is seeing through a kaleidoscope when it comes to the appointment of incumbents on key posts in the state? Why the government can not look through transparent lenses and find a person within the state among the populace of more than 1.20 crores?" Khajuria asked.
Asserting that Jammu and Kashmir state has the distinction of producing talented people who have not only established their credentials in the country but created their name in various fields all over the globe, the BJP State President lamented that the rulers in the government have always brought outsiders to run the affairs of the state government and hammer its citizens through them while ignoring the local talent.
He said the role of Wajahat Habibullah was also exposed in the Working Group’s recommendations where in he had categorically favoured to divide the state into five zones entirely on communal lines. Is it in nation’s favour to appoint persons like Wajahat Habibullah on a key position in the state ? he questioned.
The BJP chief said that although our neighboring country has been working towards disintegration of the state but the real threat is from the government within which patronize such persons like Habibullah.
Khajuria declared that the BJP will take every effective and democratic step to thwart such move of the government and also ensure that such type of elements within the government whose approach is on communal lines are removed from the administration.
