PDP to mobilize public opinion for Self-Rule
10/21/2009 11:17:16 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 21: The PDP leadership has formulated a plan on persuading the Government of India for resuming composite dialogue with Pakistan for ensuring peace in the subcontinent.
In this connection party leaders have fanned to different parts of the state for mobilising public opinion in favour of the party's self-rule concept.
According to senior party leaders namely Dilawar Mir and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat,"we have decided to create a situation in which the centre would be forced to resume not only the composite dialogue with Pakistan but also with leaders of the state having diverse political ideology.
Mir and Bhat accused the centre for having choked the channels of dialogue with the separatists for the last over four years and added that talks with not only the separatists but with other political leaders within the state should be held. Both leaders also opinioned that the centre should give another thought to the PDP's Self-Rule concept which is better as compared to the ‘Greater Autonomy’ slogan of the National Conference.
Bhat said that while greater autonomy addressed only the internal dimensions because it related to the administrative and political arrangement between the state and the centre the Self-Rule idea addresses both the internal and the external dimensions of the problem. PDP leaders also underlined once the Self-Rule concept is accepted by the centre it would not endanger the integrity and security of the country but instead promote better relations between Delhi and Islamabad, between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad and promote people to people contact. Bhat said that the success of the PDP in winning over 21 seats in the 2008 election indicated that people in the state supported the self-rule idea as this concept formed a main feature of the PDP's poll manifesto.
