Wani reviews draught situation in Doda

Doda Oct 21,: MLA Doda abdul Majid Wani, today, visited Dhashnan Dhar Aulougat area. Enroute, he inspected under construction PMGSY Dhar Dashnan road. The quality of the work was inspected by Wani. It was informed that the road has been made motorable upto five km. A project for further expansion of the road by another 12 km has already been submitted to the government for approval purpose. Wani assured people to get the project approved on priority. Once completed, the road shall benefit people upto Dashnan Aulougat area. A public rally was also addressed by Abdul Majid Wani at Dhar, where the villagers apprised the Wani about the hardships they were facing due to drought. They showed him their barren fields and extremely damaged crops due to drought. Several deputations including those of Sarpanchs and Panchs from nearby villages also called on Abdul Majid Wani and demanded free ration for atleast one year, timely supply of seeds and fertilizers on subsidy, job to farmers, drinking water, irrigational facilities and fooder for their cattle.
Wani expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation prevailing in Doda district due to the drought which had resulted in total crop failure. Majid Wani requested the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to approach government of India and seek relief package for drought hit areas of J&K. He expressed apprehension that the situation shall further deteriorate during the coming winter and the administration should be geared up immediately to meet any sort of calamity in the region. Wani requested the Chief Minister to announce, as an interim relief, free distribution of ration and blankets in villages of Doda district for one year. The poor villagers apart from the farmers are left with no option than to starve. Wani expressed hope that the Central Government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi shall shortly announce a relief package for poor farmers of Doda.
Earlier, in a function at District Police Lines Doda, MLA Doda paid homage to Police martyrs and others killed all over India during the year 2008 and 2009. Deputy Commissioner Doda and other senior police officers alongwith all prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
