Economic terrorism still looms large
10/21/2009 11:23:13 PM
The recent busting of counterfeit currency racket through simultaneous raids in Jammu, Doda and Rajouri and seizure of fake notes worth Rs One Crore along with printing equipments has again underlined that Jammu and Kashmir continues to be a target of economic terrorism. From distribution of fake currency notes through various bank branches to recoveries of suit cases full of fatty wads of deceptive papers, it is coming as a long haul in Jammu and Kashmir. An suspecting 75 years old gentleman in Kishtwar was handed over Rs 10000 in fake currency notes by cashier of a bank. He could not have noticed the counterfeit had he not deposited the same money into another bank in the same area that fraud wad detected within hours. Not long back, a similar case had surfaced in Surankote area of Poonch district. There have been many other similar cases; most recently two soldiers of the Territorial Army were held with a huge consignment of counterfeit notes in Ramban district along the National Highway. While recovery of counterfeits from conduits and operators is a different case altogether, the circulated of notes through banks is a serious cause of concern on which the banks and the state government must come up with stringent law lest the unscrupulous elements flood the local economy with fake notes. Of course, the banks would never like harm to their reputation but involvement of local cashiers and clerks with the fake currency racketeers can do a great degree of damage. To check this menace, there should be a scientific system in place which detects the fake notes on both occasions –which accepting cash and also while disbursing cash from the banks. Only such a system can enthuse trust among the people. Jammu and Kashmir alone is not a victim of fake currency. India at large had been suffering from this economic terrorism –half of it home grown and rest propelled by the neighbouring countries with the much obvious designs. Business of fake currency notes is being run by the persons belonging to well to do families, high profiles and some government employees. India is facing heavy attack of fake currencies , this attack is on the economy of the country. Government and public have come under economic insecurity in it. Action is being taken against such elements. Public is also being assured that the problem is meager, probably close to Rs 10 lakh only found in circulation. It is suspected that Pakistani government and its intelligence agency ISI has started this conspiracy against India. It handing over such fake notes to the smugglers and terrorists against India started this trend in India. When strict monitoring was made against this fake business then Pakistan started sending fake currencies through Nepal. Now the terrorists coming through Nepal and Bangladesh due to the conspiracy of Pakistan. The hijackers of Kandhar aeroplane hijacking case had also boarded from Kathmandu-the capital of Nepal. Nepal is a Hindu nation and Bangladesh from its origin has been close to India. So Pakistan has decided that India would not suspect the citizens of these countries so terrorist attack and economic attack through fake currencies to be done with the help of criminal elements of these countries. That is how the business of fake currency is run elsewhere in India but in Jammu and Kashmir the porous borders make things easy.
