| No concrete results in first round of govt-medico talks | | | Early Times Report Srinagar/Jammu, Oct 21: The first round of talks between agitating junior doctors and a high level government panel headed by Finance Minister Abdulah Rahim Rather today ended without any tangible results. The meetings held in Srinagar, also attended by a team of five doctors from Jammu, revolved around the same old act between the two parties where government insisted in calling off strike while doctors asked for fulfillment of demands before doing so. A representative of the Junior Doctors Association told Early Times over phone from Srinagar that the government is buy time by trying to convince doctors to call off strike and wait for the follow-up action. The Finance Minister after listening to the demands of the striking doctors, advised them to call off their strike in view of the problems being faced by the poor patients. He assured them that as per the decision already taken at a meting held on 16th August 2009, the government is committed to address their grievances before Darbar move. He hoped that keeping in view their noble profession and their commitment to the ailing community, they will not waste their time by continuing their uncalled and unjustified strike. He emphasized that all possible measures will be taken by the government so that patient care does not suffer at any level. The striking doctors were advised to further discuss the matter among their own ranks and they are at liberty to meet the committee again tomorrow the 22nd October 2009. The representatives of the doctors agreed to have another round of talks tomorrow. The meeting was presided over by the Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather and attended by Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S.
