| Recent exhibiation was grand success : Slathia | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, October 22-Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr. S. S. Slathia today reviewed the functioning of Handicrafts department at a high level meeting here this afternoon. The meeting was attended by Director Handlooms, Mrs Chandra Gupta and Director Handicrafts Mr. Showkat Ahmad Zargar. A threadbare discussion took place during the meeting regarding the exhibition--cum-display of handicraft products during different events held in the State and outside the state to showcase the valley’s traditional products in the global market.
The meeting was informed that during these exhibitions a mega sale of handicraft products has been placed and products worth Rs 67 lakhs have been purchased by tourists and local customers in three exhibitions held at SKICC during the visit of delegation of confederation of Indian Industries, AROGYA FAIR and Amarnath Yatra at Baltal and Pahalgam.
The Minister stressed for launching awareness camps at district level by involving local artisans to display their products. He said that government has taken various initiatives to uplift the artisans of the state by way of providing financial assistance by respective financial institutions of the area.
The Minister called upon the artisans to come forward and take the benefits of the schemes launched by the government for their welfare.
The meeting further informed that the department is also participating at national craft mela at Chandigarh where 35 stalls have been kept for J&K State. The meeting was further informed that development Commissioner Handicrafts, Government of India has allotted 50 stalls to J&K at Delhi Haat for sale of handicraft products.
