Shabir reaches out to remote areas , assures food stocks , power supply in winters

Srinagar October 22: The Minister of State for CA&PD, Forest, Power and Transport, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan said that government has taken all necessary measures to stock essential commodities in far-off and hilly areas of the state which remain cutoff for 5 to 7 months during winter season from rest of the state. He said over 90% food grains have been stocked in Gureaz, Karnah, Machail, Keran, Padder, Wadwan, and Marwah areas so far and remaining quantity of foodgrains should be stocked before end of this month so that the people of these areas would not face any difficulty for getting their ration during winter months.

This was stated by the Minister today during his tour to Bandipora. The Minister took on the spot stock of various basic amenities provided to the people and directed district administration to ensure best possible services to the people.

The Minister inspected various food sale out lets in the area. He checked the quantity and quality of foodgrains while inspecting the main Bandipora grainery. The Minister was informed that sufficient quota of food grains are available in the district and there is no shortage of food grains in all the three tehsils of the district.

While taking stock of supply shortage position of foodgrains in Guraz tehsil, the Minister was apprised that till date 28699 quintals of rice, 13637 quintals of Atta and Wheat, 1784 quintals of Sugar and 88000 liters of K.oil have been stocked in the godowns of the tehsil and 32000 liters more K.oil would to dumped in the area before the end of this month.

The Minister said that government is committed to upgrade the power scenario in the state and added that necessary steps are under way to improve the power supply in Bandipora area. He said so far 76 kms of HT lines and 100 kms of LT lines have been laid in the area. He said Rs. 20 crore under execution grid station, Bandipora would improve to a large scale the power scenario in the district.

Mr. Shabir Khan said that a workshop for repairs of transformers would be set up at Bandiproa and directed the concerned authorities that till then the repairs of transformers should be ensured within 15 days. He said 26 hamlets and villages of Bandipora would provide better electricity facility under Rajiv Gandhi Vidyuti Karan Yojana.

Mr. Shabir Khan said that 15 diesel generator sets are providing power supply to the people of Gurez and installation work of two new diesel generator sets are apace in the area. He said in order to provide scheduled power supply during winter months, 4.70 lakh liters of diesel have been stocked in the area.
