Need for response in action and not words
7/21/2006 7:28:05 PM
While terrorism is spreading its tentacles in the country to menacing extent, with no part of the India believed to be a safe place and not vulnerable to strike by the jehadis, the response from our political bosses as well as the administration is confusing and so casual and weak that it does not create confidence among the common man about the ability of our government to provide him protection. In the aftermath of Mumbai serial blasts in the metros highly disturbing reports are emanating from all parts. Besides the hoax calls on phones and messages on e-mail about the bombs having been planted at such and such places, e-mail has been sent even to country’s President threatening his liquidation. The ruling political leaders as well as the intelligence and other agencies are only groping in the dark as to how to tackle these panic-creating exercises. The Prime Minister who should give lead to the nation in chalking out a well-knit plan and strategy to overcome the situation, is only serving sermons to the states, prescribing them dos and do nots to meet the growing menace of terrorism. It is the Central government who is mainly responsible for chalking out a line of action as well as to take the policy decision to stem the rot. But instead of tightening its own nuts, bolts and screws, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been advising the states, as he did in the meeting of Chief Ministers of various states, advising them to gear up to fight terror let loose by the Islamic fundamentalists as well as the Maoists and Naxalites. What Singh has been preaching to the state governments will prove more effective only if the Center gears up itself to meet the challenge. The favourable resolution by G8 countries leaders at the recently held Saint Petersburg Conference, which conveyed their sympathy towards India in the hour of its crisis is only a poor consolation. No country is going to come forward to uproot the scourge of militancy in our country. It is India and India alone who has to fight and meet the challenge thrown to the country by the jehadis, or the Naxals. The reports that as many as 1300 ultras are ready to infiltrate into J&K and are presently stationed at their launching pads along the LoC is highly disturbing. These ultras who are trained in PoK and are itching to cross the LoC and infiltrate into our side for indulging in acts of subversion and sabotage are in addition to 1600 terrorists already operating in our country. These disturbing disclosures need be taken very seriously and a policy and plan need be drawn to destroy the capacity of the enemy to strike against us. Instead of waiting for these jehadis to sneak into our territory and then strike against them, a preemptive action to demolish and destroy them at their launching pads is called for. The Pak President Parvez Musharraf’s attempt at hoodwinking India as well as the world powers by asking India to provide positive proof of the terrorists using the territory under Pakistan control for striking in India, only deserve to be mocked at. In the past we have provided ample and convincing evidence of this fact and we have also provided a list of perpetrators of bloodbath in our country presently finding a safe sanctuary in Pakistan. But instead of conceding to our demand for handing over those criminals to India, Pakistan has been only pretending their non-presence in that country or pleading their innocence. Under these circumstances India shall have to think what pressure we have to put on Pakistan to fulfill its obligation and commitment of not allowing the territory under their control to be used as launching pads for terrorist strikes in India.
