Early Times Report
Jammu/Srinagar, Oct 22: While New Delhi’s team of peacenik mandarins is on way to Valley to launch their quite diplomacy with the separatists, the main dialogue enthusiast Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, has left for London to attend two conferences.
Some members of the team of bureaucratic from the Home Ministry and Prime Minister’s Office are already in Srinagar while others are reaching there to launch the quite diplomacy as announced by the visiting Home Minister P Chidrambram earlier this month. They are scheduled to meet Mirwaiz and other separatist leaders to get a feedback on the dialogue process, an official said.
Meanwhile, the Mirwaiz today left for London to attend two separate conferences on Kashmir.
Mirwaiz left for Delhi en route to London to attend the two-day Intra Kashmir conference on October 24 and a-day long round-table conference on October 26, a hurriyat spokesman said.
While the intra-Kashmir Conference is being sponsored by Kashmiris living in London, the round-table conference on Kashmir is being organised by the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI).
The spokesman said the Hurriyat chairman will shed light on the amalgam's stand vis-a-vis Kashmir and highlight the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris during these conferences.
Home Minister P Chidambaram announced in Kashmir last week that the central government was working “on quiet diplomacy to arrive at a unique, acceptable and honourable solution to the problems in Kashmir,” raising expectations that the stalled talks with separatists would resume.
Mirwaiz had welcomed the statement saying it was a “positive development”.
The visit of the central government officials comes ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s tour of Kashmir on October 28 when he will inaugurate the 12km rail link between Qazigund and Khannabal in south Kashmir Anantnag district.
