| SRTC employees hit street with families | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 23 : Thousands of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) employees again took to the streets along with their families in support of their demands. The SRTC employees, who have submitted their applications under VRS, have grounded thousands of buses and trucks for the past 59 days, demanding five months salary and other benefits. However, the government had announced that their five months salary would be released and consider other demands. The employees, holding black flags, assembled near SRTC headquarter and marched through different streets in the civil lines, including Moulana Azad road, Budshah Chowk, Ganthaghar and later back headquarter. Raising slogans in favour of their demands, they alleged that government was not serious to resolve the crisis. ''We want justice'', they were seen shouting during the procession. However, they did not disrupt traffic movement on busy routes. Accompanied by children and women, the employees said they were facing starvation because of no salary for the past five months. ''We were not allowed to enter our schools'', alleged the children carrying bags on their shoulders. They said they could not deposit the school fees and other dues because their fathers were not getting any salary. The SRTC employees had threatened not to ply any vehicle for transportation of office records and employees moving to winter capital Jammu along with Darbar move. The offices will be closed here on October 30 and 31 to reopen at Jammu on November 9. Thousands of employees shift to Jammu with annual darbar move from summer capital, Srinagar. An official spokesman however said the government has assured the agitating employees that it will release five months salary and discuss other issues. However, it has asked the employees to resume work. He said this information was given at a meeting of Public Undertaking Committee of Legislative Assembly held under the chairmanship of MLA, opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) member Abdul Rehman Veeri. He said the committee was informed that the government has assured the employees of the corporation that five months salary will be released in their favour and hopeful that the employees will call off their strike immediately. Secretary, Transport K B Jandial informed the Committee that the government was serious about the difficulties and problems of the employees but they should come forward with positive attitude. However, Mr Veeri has directed the officers concerned of Transport Department to look into the genuine demands of the employees of SRTC.
