Jat community demands O.B.C status

Jammu, Oct 23: The J&K Jat awareness society has urged upon the state government to grant OBC status to the community as early as possible.
Addressing the members of the community advocate Harmeet Singh General Secretary of Jat awareness society said both Dr. Farooq Abdullah and present Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah have promised during last elections to give OBC status to the Jat community, but till date nothing has been done. He said even Dy. Chief Minister Tara Chand and Industries Minister S.S. Salathia have also given assurance about the same.
President of society and senior National conference leader Kulwant Singh Bhatti said, during the last 60yrs no political party tried to give any sort of benefit to the community, which he said spread in the vast area staring from Lakhanpur (Kathua) to twin border of Poonch & Rajouri in the state.
Vikram Singh, Tejinder Singhy, Harbans Lal, Dev Raj, Mohand Singh and S. Satnam Singh Bhatti were also present in the meeting.
