| JKPP hails Omar's statement over Panchayat Elections | | | Early Times Report Jammu Oct 24 The Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) in its meeting has welcomed the announcement of Omar Abdullah Chief Minister J&K to hold Panchayat Elections in the State by January next. Nissar Ahmed Khan (Former Agriculture Minister - J&K) Chief Patron of JKPP has congratulated Omar Abdullah for being serious on holding the panchayat elections in the State by end of this year or beginning of next year. The President JKPP Jugal Kishore Gupta too has hailed the statement and termed it it will involve the people at grass root level in the process of development and hoped that necessary steps shall be taken by the government towards visible delegation of powers to panchayati raj institutions. Gupta further said that a delegation of JKPP led by Sheetla Shankar Vijay Mishar - Member Expert Committee on Panchayats Government of India and Chief General Secretary All India Panchayat Parishad - Delhi shall meet the authorities on Panchayati Raj & Rural Development at Srinagar in the first week of Coming month to discuss Panchayati Raj and Rural Development in details. The members in the meeting also expressed their gratitude to UPA Chairperson Madam Sonia Gandhi and NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah - Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy for Effecting Panchayati Raj System. Niranjan Singh, Dr. Gopal Dass Sharma, Sonia Dutta, Abrar Ahmed Khan, Deep Mala, Rajeev Dutta, Ch. Mohd. Aslam and Sankit Mahajan were prominent among those who attended the meeting.
