| Street light storm in JMC meeting | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 24: As expected as matter of routine, the 54th general house meeting of Jammu Municipal Corporation remained a stormy session amidst walkouts by the angry corporators. The walk out was staged after exchanging of hot discussion by Congress and National Conference corporators with Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner. Earlier the Congress corporators were seen in an angry mood which further heated up the scene when cororator Narander Singh, a former Mayor, showed his resentment against summoning general house meeting without prior notice. “We were informed just 5 days ahead of the holding of meeting though it is clearly mentioned in the constitution that information should be imparted to the corporators of the meeting at least 15 days earlier”, he said. The situation went worst when corporators were appraised that street lights had been distributed among the corporators on pick and choose basis. Hardly had the statement was passed when corportors stood from their chairs as to know who the corporators were distributed with the lights. Narinder Singh informed that earlier it was told that corporation that 600 street lights and tender for purchase of 100 more had been floated so that 10 lights were distributed among each corporators but till date no light has been given to any corporator and alleged favoritism prevailed in the corporation. Later Congress and National Conference members staged walk out with torturing of minutes provided to them. Corporator Manmohan Singh Pappu alleged deep nexus in the corporation. While as Narinder Singh alleged that corporation is buying tiles on the rate of Rs 18.25 while as the actual rate of the same is Rs 14, thus huge loss to state exchequer and demanded probe into the incident. BJP and independent corporators who left in the house, in the next round, were informed that corporation is going to purchase 4 more road rollers. Recreational club for the senior citizens of Channi Himmat was also sanctioned. Assurance was also given for installation of street lights in every corner of the city. Comissioner JMC warned Xen Vijay Kumar to adhere to the work or face action.
