SIT presents 2239-page challan:
says examined 68 witnesses, cable network rivalry led to murder

Jammu, Oct 24: Nearly two months after broad-daylight murder of Amandeep Singh, son of a former Member of Legislative Council, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP Mubashir Latiefi under supervision of DIG Farooq Khan probing the case today presented challan against seven accused, including main murder accused Jatinder Singh and former SSP Jammu, in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu. For want of jurisdiction, the court of CJM later referred the case to the Court of Sessions Court here and the accused were directed to appear before Principal Sessions Judge on November 4.
Former SSP Jammu, Manohar Singh, former SHO of Gandhi Nagar Police Station Sultan Mehmood Mirza AND Sub Inspector Satnam Singh were escorted to the court room by a posse of cops under tight security arrangements while as the main murder accused Jatinder Singh, his accomplice Royal Singh, ballistic expert of FSL Sarwar Hussain Bukhari, another FSL official Raj Singh were produced handcuffed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate YP Bourney.
It may be recalled here that Amandeep was allegedly shot at in the afternoon of August 29 at his Shastri Nagar residence. The Police moved swiftly to arrest the key accused identified as Jatinder Singh son Chowdhary Nagar Singh in less than 12 hours of the occurrence of crime and also claimed to have seized the weapon of offence. Rendered critically injured in the shootout, Amandeep later died in a New Delhi hospital.
As already reported over past many weeks, a suspicion crept in on the role of district Police following which the Inspector General of Jammu Police Ashok Gupta ordered a secret inquiry through DIG Farooq Khan which pointed towards fudging of evidence. Matter reached Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who ordered suspension of the five Police officers and asked for an inquiry. In the following days the team led of DIG Farooq Khan and SP Mubashir Latiefi under the monitoring of IG Gupta toiled hard to crack the case. The SIT is understood to have established all links in evidence destruction string but the alleged key conspirators Nagar Singh (the father of the main murder accused) and his brothers Ujjagar and Rakesh still remain at large even as they have declared absconders.
Even as the Chowdhary trio remained at large, the SIT and were declared absconder, the SIT presented challan under sections 302/34/201/120-B/409 RPC r/w section 3/25/27 Arms Act.
In the 2239 pages challan it has been submitted that Manik Partap Singh son of Surinder Singh, resident of Sainik Colony Jammu, Pushpinder Singh son Prithvi Singh Jamwal resident of Channi Baijan, Sumit Gondi son of Om Parkash Gondi Goldsmith resident of Peer Mitha and Ishuk Choudhary son of Vijay Bushan Choudhary Property Dealer resident of Extension Gandhi Nagar Jammu were released under section 169 CrPC as no evidence has been proved against these four alleged accused and neither they have knowledge about the occurrence as they are released from the custody.
In the challan it has been submitted that on the cable business which was doing by deceased Amandeep Singh in the Sainik Colony area, the accused Jatinder Singh alias Raja and Royal Singh warned him for dire consequence if he not close the cable business otherwise he will be killed. Upon this the accused persons on this enmity on the day of occurrence accused Jatinder Singh fired on Amandeep Singh who died in the Ganga Ram Hospital New-Delhi. It is further submitted accused Jatinder Singh alias Raja and Royal Singh are a habitual criminals and their criminal record has been attached with the challan. It is further submitted that accused Choudhary Nagar Singh alias Nago and others hatched a criminal conspiracy to save the accused from the clutched of law so that they allegedly changed the weapon of offence and bullet.
During investigation the police officials former SSP Jammu Manohar Singh, former SHO Gandhi Nagar Sultan Mehmood Mirza, Satnam Singh former SI IO Gandhi Nagar hatched conspiracy with Nagar Singh alias Nago to destroy the evidence including the weapon of offence. The police officers were first suspended and thereafter arrested in the case for fudging the evidence. In the challan it has been claimed that during the investigation including SP City south made sensational disclosure which was recorded u/s 164-A CrPC and the statements of other witnesses’ u/s 161 CrPC.
It is worthwhile to mention here that during the investigation accused Choudhary Nagar Singh has withdrawn Rs 6, 20, 00, 000/- from State Bank of India Hari Market Jammu. It was suspected that this amount was used to save his son from the clutches of the accused.
In the challan 68 witnesses including police officers and the mother and brother of the deceased were mentioned in the challan.
