| JK handicrafts catch up with buyers in Chandigarh | | | Chandigarh, October 25: Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts including carpets, shawls, wood carving, sozni and paper machie, the trademark of the State handicrafts are being displayed in the National Craft Mela held here yesterday.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab and Chandigarh, Retired General G.S. Rodricks.
As many as 35 stalls of handicrafts of Jammu and Kashmir have been installed in the exhibition.
The exhibition is the first National Craft Mela of its kind where best artisans and quality products from all over the country are being displayed. People in large numbers are visiting especially the stalls of J&K.
The Handicrafts department has put in all its efforts to make it a success. Director Handicrafts, Mr. Showkat Ahmad Zargar is monitoring the handicrafts stalls of Jammu and Kashmir personally. He said that brisk sales have been recorded from all the 35 J&K stalls.
Mr. Zargar said that Kashmiri Wazwan is also being provided by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation. In addition, Kashmiri, Dogri and Ladakhi music is being played to fascinate and attract more and more people towards the stalls of J&K in the mela.
The Director said that the Jammu and Kashmir Government is also holding such exhibitions all over the country to popularize the handicrafts of the State.
