| Sunday Theatre presents ‘Crossroads’ | | | Early Times report Jammu: ‘Crossroads’ a play in Hindi conceived, written and directed by Sumeet Sharma staged in Natrang’s Sunday Theatre series. The play is highly innovative and experimental and speaks of the genre which Sumeet thinks is the strongest aspect of contemporary theatre (Theatre as an effective tool of training and personality development along with creativity) Natrang director Balwant Thakur said that Sumeet Sharma, with his own quest for a new theatre methodology has evolved a distinctive style and have produced many theatre plays with high art value and training stuff like ‘Mind Games’, ‘Crazy Kiya Ray’, ‘Gifty’, Main Aisa Kyon/Main Waisa Kyon Hoon and many others. He complimented Sumeet Sharma for being conferred country’s prestigious honor-Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Theatre Direction. The play ‘Crossroads’ exhibits in a very hilarious manner, the internal confusion which rules all of us, whenever it comes to take an important decision, we tend to seek advices from everyone known to us and those advisors give the suggestion according to their perception, which may not suit us and makes us more vulnerable indeed. This sub-letting of mind pushes us to a situation which ought to invite more problems than solutions. In the play, an ever confusing character (Parul) is shown who is about to lose his job because of recession. Unable to find a way out he seeks the suggestions from his friends & relatives regarding what to do next. The suggestions were so ambiguous and superficial that he is not benefited by that. In a process of his introspection, he goes back to his old memories, every time when he had to take some decision and to pick one option, he was not capable to think on his own, be it choosing a school, which subjects to opt, how to look for a life partner or how to behave with the wife and a score of the similar incidents. He is not happy of his confusing nature but having no other mindset, continues to be like that. Sumeet Sharma as ‘Parul’ reflected the real dilemma of the character, Mohit as ‘Balwinder’, Rohit as ‘Goru’, Gaurav Jamwal as ‘Ketan’, Rahul Singh as ‘Rahul’, Hemant Bhola as ‘Father’ & ‘Guggu’ Pankush Verma as ‘Guddu’ & Mohd. Yaseen as ‘Waiter’played their roles with professional expertise. The lights of the play were designed and executed by Gaurav Jamwal and Mohit Sharma did the music of the play.
