| Probe ordered in Kupwara youth’s killing | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 25: Separate inquiries by the district administration as well as the army have been ordered into the killing of a youth in Baramulla district as protests continued unabated against the incident in the frontier district of Kupwara for the second successive day on Sunday. Deputy commissioner Kupwara Showkat Ahmad Mir ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of 24-year-old Sajad Ahmad Lone. "I have asked my additional deputy commissioner to conduct the inquiry and submit a report within a month," Mir said, adding ex-gratia would be given to the family of the deceased soon. Police said Sajad was not a terrorist and a case has been registered against the Army on an application by his family. Deputy Inspector General of Police Baramulla Qayoom Manhas, however, said, "We cannot register a murder case until the FIR lodged by Army and the family is investigated." Sajad was killed by the Army when he allegedly stormed into their camp at Watergam, 65 km from Srinagar in Baramulla district, on Saturday, a defence spokesman said.
