Early Times Report Ramban, Oct 26: As a part of first ever Mega Lok Adalat week organized in the district, the first session of Lok Adalat was today held at district court complex, by the district legal services authority under the aegis of state legal services authority for the benefit of poor and underprivileged. The cases pertaining to maintenance, accidental, cases, civil disputes and traffic challans were taken up in the Lok Adalat today under the chairmanship of chairman, principal and district sessions judge, Bala Jyoti. In all 280 cases were settled and a sum of Rs. 67,600 was realized from the defaulters on spot. For the smooth disposal of cases, the four benches headed by chairman, session judge, Bala Jyoti were constituted. The 1st, bench comprised of CJM, Ramban, RK Dubey and ADC, Ramban, Ajay Singh Jamwal. The 2nd bench comprised of Sub Judge, Batote, Rajesh Kumar Abrol and tehsildar, (settlement) Ramban, Srinath Suman, the third bench was comprised of Munsiff, Ramban, Amarjeet Singh Langeh and BDO, Ramsoo and the 4th bench comprised of Munsiff, Banihal, Madan Lal and Naib Tehsildar, Batote, Ab. Rasheed Bhat. In all sixteen advocates from Banihal, Ramban, Batote courts including bar association presidents of Ramban, Batote and Banihal namely AR Mushtaq, ZD Babar and Khalid Nizami besides a prosecuting officer, Jaswant Raj and two senior prosecuting officers, Ranjeet Bandral and Sajad Bhat also assisted the proceedings of the Lok Adalat. While highlighting the concept and benefits of Lok Adalat she called them as a boon for the poor and underprivileged litigants. She termed these Lok Adalat as modernized version of Gram Sabha, Gram Parishad, Panchayat or Qazi established to settle the disputes between the two parties through conciliation and comprise, free of cost. She said that none of the litigants have to pay any court fee in these Lok Adalat. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA, Ramban, Ashok Kumar said that the holding of mega lok adalats should be made a regular feature in this backward and hilly district which has one of the most number of BPL families.
