| Indian Army celebrates Infantry Day | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, 26 Oct Infantry Day is being celebrated by Indian Army on 27 Oct every year. This day marks the landing of the First Battalion Sikh Regiment under the Indian tri-colour and the consequent battles undertaken by the Army to save Jammu and Kashmir from the marauding invaders who had crossed over from the newly formed nation of Pakistan. This day is testimony to the Infantry’s commitment to the nation. Infantry men are the proud inheritors of valour, supreme sacrifice, steadfastness, and selfless devotion to duty. Infantry Day has a special significance for the Northern Command as it forms a key stone to its eventual formation in protecting not only the diversified borders of Jammu and Kashmir, but also the people from the menace of terrorism. The GOC-in-C Northern Command, Lt Gen BS Jaswal, AVSM, VSM will pay homage on this day to the martyrs at the Northern Command War Memorial. In his message on the eve of the Infantry Day, the Army Commander, who is also from the infantry, reiterated the commitment to the ongoing proxy war and asked troops to be a continued source of inspiration to the Motherland by dedicating themselves to the values of courage, devotion to duty, honesty and integrity in order to maintain the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
