Jammu , Oct 26
Fearing yet another spell of military dictatorship in adjoining Pakistan, the former Minister of State for Defence and the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has cautioned the ruling leadership of New-Delhi against the lowering of the guards, especially in the troubled Kashmir.
After visiting border villages of Chhamb Sector, Prof. Gupta observed that though there is by and large a lull in the areas bordering Pak-occupied Kashmir but there is no let up in the anti-India designs. And the situation can take any ugly turn at any time especially because of the internal developments in Pakistan as the extremism has begun to recoil in their own country and to deal with the situation army has already begun to step in. And army ruled Pakistan has been more belligerent. Democracy and civil Government are alien to the very concept of Pakistan. This has been proved over the years as religions fundamentalism and civil rule cannot go together, he added and further said that over 40 per cent of Pakistan Army is itself infected by Talibani outlook. BJP leader addressing a meeting of the Party activists at Panjtoot, close to the Line of Control, praised the courage and spirit of patriotism of the people of border areas for facing the repeated aggressions of Pakistan and bore the first burnt and did not lose heart. The people of the area are really soldiers of the country but regretted that the Government is not paying due attention to sort out their problems, he added.
The activists complained that despite drought like situation the Government did not provide any sort of help to the farmers and mere promises and statements are being issued by the ruling leaders, to hood wink the public opinion. At the meeting the problems of unemployment, soaring prices, discrimination under political considerations etc., were also brought to the notice of Prof. Gupta.
Referring to the impending visit of the Prime Minster, Dr. Manmohan Singh to Kashmir, the BJP leader voiced his doubts that Congress leadership had learnt no lesson from the past and still they are fiddling with their own created problems under communal considerations. There are reports granting of certain concessions and withdrawal of troops and doing away with the Special Powers of the Army. But these rulers must keep in mind that buckling under pressure is no solution to any issue. In the past too, under communal and other considerations several concessions were given but none of these had worked. About the handing over of the entire problems of militancy related violence to the local police, the BJP leader said that in collaboration with the troops police these days is extending considerable help in dealing with the cross border terror but the experiences of the past should also be taken into account, especially when many in the local Government itself are having communally deceased mind.
