| Implement union police reform law in state: Puri | | | Early Times Report Jammu Oct 27: Padam Bhushan awardee Balraj Puri, Convenor PUCL J&K State, has urged the government to learn proper lessons from the alleged killing of one Sajad in Langet by army and death of Ranjeesh in police custody in Srinagar. He demanded implementation of reforms in union police law and AFSPA to be publicly debated. Puri said, “The reported draft reforms in AFSPA by the Union Law Ministry should be publicly debated while Supreme Court’s directive about police reforms and Union government’s reforms in police law in union territories should be implemented in the State.” He however wondered why the practice in the rest of India under which district authorities are bound to report every case of custodial death to the National Human Rights Commission, was not followed in the State.
