| Northern Command celebrates Infantry Day | | |

Udhampur, Oct 27- Infantry Day is celebrated by the Indian Army on October 27 every year to mark the landing of the first Battalion of Indian Army on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir. This day is testimony to the Infantry’s commitment to the nation. Infantry men are the proud inheritors of valour, supreme sacrifice, steadfastness, and selfless devotion to duty.
A ceremony was held today at Northern Command war memorial where the GOC-in-C Northern Command, Lt Gen BS Jaswal, paid homage to the martyrs by putting wreath at the memorial.
In his message, the Army Commander, who is also from the infantry, reiterated the commitment to the ongoing proxy war and asked troops to be a continued source of inspiration to the Motherland by dedicating themselves to the values of courage, devotion to duty, honesty and integrity in order to maintain the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
The Infantry Day has a special significance for the Northern Command as it forms a key stone to its eventual formation in protecting not only the diversified borders of Jammu and Kashmir, but also the people from the menace of terrorism. He also paid homage to the martyrs at the Northern Command War Memorial.
