| CM for creation of diverse tourist attractions | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 27: Underscoring the need for protecting State’s water bodies, Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Tuesday called for a coordinated approach and active public participation in this stupendous task. “The large scale human interference and encroachments have badly affected State’s water wealth and greenery”, he said and asked for reversing the trend to safeguard the future. Chairing the meeting of Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority held at Mansbal in Ganderbal district, the Chief Minister who is also Chairman of the Authority, emphasized on creating diverse tourist attractions in the areas under the jurisdictions of 22 Development Authorities created in the State to develop the facilities and improve tourist resorts. “You have to benchmark different attractions for different Development Authorities keeping in view the feasibility and potential of the tourist areas in respect of various activities”, he said adding that Gulmarg for instance can be showcased besides other things for snow skiing, Sonamarg for white water rafting and Mansbal for para-sailing while kayaking, jet-skiing, para-gliding, canoeing, angling, mountaineering, rock-climbing like adventure sports can be promoted in other feasible areas. The Chief Minister said that there is a need to revamp the tourism promotion policy giving due thought for initiating innovative and modern methods to attract tourists to the State from all over the world. “We have to put in place scientific and upto date publicity and promotion strategy in this regard”, he added. Omar said that government is vigorously following the proposal furnished to the Centre for funding Wullar development project involving an expenditure of over Rs. 350 crore. “A comprehensive project for the revival and restoration of the world’s famous fresh water lake Wullar has been formulated and Government of India approached to provide financial assistance for the implementation of this project”, he said. The meeting discussed matters pertaining to the restoration of water supply to Mansbal Tourist Resort, construction of Front-Gate Plaza, illumination, construction of Ghats, upgradation of link roads, restoration of springs in Kral-mohalla and Jamia Masjid areas, development of Parks at Puter-mohalla, construction of vantage huts, chain link fencing of Mansbal, drugging of the lake and plantation. The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Tourism, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Legislators, Mr. Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Mr. Basharat Bukhari and Mr. Mohammad Ashraf, Commissioner Secretary Planning, Mr. B. B. Vyas, Commissioner Secretary, Finance, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary Tourism, Ms Tanveer Jahan and other members of the Authority.
