| J&K Mountaineering Club to observe its Diamond jubilee | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club has decided to observe its Diamond jubilee celebrations. It was exactly 75 years ago the club was formed by late Tyndale Biscoe in Srinagar alongwith few of his friends. As part of its celebrations the club is planning to focus on trekking programmes for youth in collaboration with department of tourism. The Club is contemplating organising an adventure expo, a souvenir, membership drive to expand its activities in schools and colleges. As a part of its Diamond jubilee celebrations the club undertook a trekking expedition to Kantarnag high altitude alpine lake situated at an altitude of 3900 mts in the Pir Panjal Mountains. The snow clad lake forms the source of the Ferozpora nallah in Tangmarg area and is located close Chor Panjal gali which leads to Poonch. The expedition team comprised ski patrollers of Tourism department, club members and local youth from Tangmarg. The team started its journey from Kongdoori and trekked for about 12 hours covering a distance of 24 kilometres. Apart from the autumn tinge, the team also witnessed the rare wildlife like Monal pheasants, Koklas and Rock pigeon. The team was led by Mahmooda Ahmad Shah, Deputy Director, Tourism, Kashmir. The Club has thanked Cable Car Corporation for their support they provided in this expedition.
