SRINAGAR, OCT 27: State Forest Corporation (SFC) has started home delivery service to ensure timely distribution of timber to the consumers within the limits of Srinagar Municipal areas.
Minister for Forests Mian Altaf Ahmad flagged off three trucks laden with timber from fair prize Central Division Shalitang, here today to launch the service.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that 97 percent of State’s population use timber in the construction works, adding the service would streamline timber distribution with consumers getting timber readily.
Mian Altaf directed the concerned authorities of Forest department and State Forest Corporation to ensure quick evacuation of timber from forests and supply it among consumers as per laid down norms. He said prompt evacuation coupled with hassle free distribution would bring more projects to the Corporation besides catering to the timber needs of consumers.
Expressing satisfaction on the working of corporation employees, Mian Altaf said that the government has already brought corporation under the ambit of SRO-43 and issues regarding COLA is under the active consideration of the government.
The Managing Director SFC, Mr. Abdul Qayoom said that 72,841 cft of timber worth Rs 4.95 crore has been sold by the Corporation during the current fiscal so far through fair price Central Division and Saw Mill Division. Giving blue print of newly designed Timber Trade Centre project, he said that the facilities like JK bank Branch, Imported timber testing laboratory, mobile vehicles and timber treatment plant would remain available in the trade centre at Shalitang to facilitate consumers.
Commissioner Secretary Forests, Shant Mano, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jagdeesh Kashwan, Chief Conservator of Forest , Kashmir, Shajat Ahmed and other concerned were present on the occasion.
