Vyas chairs meeting to discuss employment programme

Srinagar, Oct 27- Modalities of Sher-i- Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for the youth were discussed here today, at a high level meeting, chaired by Commissioner/Secretary Planning, Mr B B Vyas.
Secretary, Labour and Employment Mr Farooq Ahmad Peer, Director General, Economics and Statistics Mr G A Qureshi, Secretary, Planning, Director Planning, Managing Director, J K PCC, Managing Director, Women Development Corporation, Director Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Registrar Cooperatives besides representatives from Jammu and Kashmir Bank and State Bank of India were present.
The meeting discussed in depth the measures to be taken to formulate the final policy document regarding the programme. It was told that the concerned departments would come up with the over view of present employment situation which will include the population and the work force into consideration. After it there would be the overview of employment scheme that consists of state and central schemes. It will be followed by the initiatives taken by the government as well as the volunteer bodies i.e. NGOs.
The meeting also discussed the total capital investment and the private investment involved in employability in the categories of government sector as well as the private sectors of the state. It was told that land has been already identified for the construction of Employment and Counselling Centres both at Srinagar and Jammu. Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for the programme. There would be orientation programme for both skilled and unskilled youth and the assistance of Rs 3 lakh would be given to undergraduate youth and Rs 5 lakh to graduate youth under the programme.
It was further informed that EDI would provide skill assistance to the entrepreneurs to train them for taking up their units besides the RDD would also contribute in the form of NREGA scheme meant for community development.
It was further that PWD would be given the task of constructing the structures besides the drawing rooms where the youth would be imparted necessary training.
Statistics and Economics department was assigned the job of working out the structure of the policy taking into account the human resource and the work force available in the government and private sector. Secretary Planning will get the feedback from all the concerned, which would be consolidated and given the final shape.
The new employment policy would be announced on 5th of December on the birth anniversary of Sher-i- Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
