| CM visits Uri, takes stock of rehabilitation work | | Azad directs administration to release final installment within 2 weeks | | Kamalkote (Uri), Oct 03 Appreciating the joint efforts of both center and State governments for fulfillment of the promises made by Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA chair person Sonia Ghandhi for completion of relief and rehabilitation drive under taken for October 8 earth quake victims of the state, Chief Minster Ghlum Nabi Azad today said that promises made by collation government was fulfilled within due span of time. Chief minister was addressing a public rally after distrusting final installment of relief cheques among quake victims of Uri at Kamalkote – a far off frontier village worst hit in devastating earth quake. On this occasion Azad also launched a special government of India sponsored adoption scheme for children orphaned by the last year's devastating earthquake in the state. The scheme, which was announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to the quake affected areas, was launched at worst affected Kamalkote in Uri district. Addressing the gathering the chief minister, emphasized on the quake hit people to complete their newly constructed houses by ending November. He also distrusted relief cheques among the children and handed over them passbooks of Rs 5 lakh for each who has lost his parents in the dreadful earth quake last year. The CM directs the administration to furnish the relief cheques distribution within week in district Baramulla. He said, "The children who have lost one among their parents were being given Rs 2.50 lakh which is being deposit on his name in the banks of which monthly interest he/she could utilize for educational purposes." Under the news scheme - 'Nounihaloo kai liyay naya savera' (new dawn for children), he said the Prime Minister has granted Rs five lakh each to the orphan who had lost both parents in the earthquake and Rs 2.5 lakh each for children who lost one of their parents. The amount would be deposited in a bank in the name of the orphan and the interest earned from the amount will be utilised for his/her education. The principal amount would be utilised by the orphan himself/herself at maturity. The Chief Minister said 818 next of kins of those who have lost their lives in earthquake would get relief of Rs one lakh as announced by the Prime Minister. He also lauded the role of both local and international voluntary Organizations and NGOs for their role in relief and rehabilitation of the quake hit people of the state. He was accompanied by minister of sate for consumer affairs and public distribution Taj Moh-udin and Divisional commissioner of Kashmir Basarat Ahmed. |
