| Terrorism has no sect, creed or religion: Azad | | | Agencies New Delhi, Oct 27: Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today cautioned against terrorists' strategy of taking shelter under religious principles and said that it need to be effectively countered. Presiding over the 2nd International Conference on 'Terrorism --National and International' organised by Jama Masjid United Forum here, Mr Azad said it was essential that narrow and false interpretation of religion not find any public sympathy or support and exposed by learned men of religion. ''The acts of terrorists across the globe underscore that terrorism is a global threat which transcends borders and religions and is not linked to any specific sect or religion or creed," he said. Terrorism undermines democracy, liberalism, civil freedom and is a threat to entire civilisation, Mr Azad said, adding India has faced terrorism for long time, both in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, as instigation and support for the terrorists came from across the borders. The Minister drew attention to a distinct pattern and sinister design by the terrorists which is manifested in terrorist strike on prominent pillars of Indian economy. Exhorting to be watchful against creation of a religious overtone of terrorist activities, Mr Azad cited that over two decades of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has killed more number of Muslims than people of other communities. The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said in all the militancy affected areas the common man is the real sufferer. ''A Kashmiri stands hapless, witnessing his own destruction mutely," he said and added that terrorism does not recognise anybody and even those who promote terrorism cannot escape from its consequences. The conference was inaugurated by Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
