| Muftis continue to have page in good books of Congress leadership | | | Early Times Report Jammu Oct 29: Former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd.Sayed, has not been discarded by the Congress, notwithstanding an alliance with the National Conference, became evident on Wednesday when the PDP patron was seated on the dais at Vanpoh during the inaugural ceremony of the Anantnag-Qazigund rail link. Mufti was in the row of chairs occupied by Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Mamta Banerjee, Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Saifuddin Soz, Mehboob Beg. Not only this when the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi addressed people they mentioned the Mufti's name while naming Farooq, Omar Soz and Azad. Informed sources said that Mufti Syed had been requested to r remain present during the rail link inaugural function. He was seen rubbing his shoulders with Prime Minister when he got up to flag off the train service between Anantnag and Qazigund. Sources said that the Congress leadership continues to repose trust in Mufti. The AICC leadership seems to play its card well as by aligning with the National Conference it has not severed its relations with the PDP. Whenever the Mufti or his daughter Mehbooba, wants to meet the Prime Minister they get appointment within no time. The Congress is not ready to burn bridges with the PDP because it wants to keep the PDP in good humour so that whenever required the Congress could forge an alliance with the Muftis and kick out the National Conference. Even Ghulam Nabi Azad too has got the wind of the Congress high command's plan and that has been the reason for his going close to the Mufti in recent days. Sources said that the NC leadership too knows mindset of NC and hence does not initiate any measure that could annoy the Congress. NC leadership is of the view that keeping the Congress is good humour is the only way to keep its political foe, the PDP, out of power.
