| Dwivedi reviews Jhiri Mela arrangements | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, OCTOBER 29 - The District Development Commissioner Jammu Mr M.K. Dwivedi has exhorted on synchronization and better co-ordination among the departments and mela committee for the smooth conduct of the prestigious Jhiri Mela beginning from November 2,2008.He said that district administration has geared up its preparations to make this historical event remarkable and more alluring for the pilgrims and tourists who visit this mela in multitude from within and outside the state. DDC said this at a meeting held at Yatri Niwas Jhiri to review the arrangements made by the concerned departments and agencies at various levels for the smooth conduct of the mela Threadbare discussions were held on providing adequate security, proper sanitation, 24 hour power supply, drinking water at the venue so that pilgrims do not face any problem. Mr. Dwivedi was informed that better road connectivity to Jhiri temple and adjoining areas has been ensured and medical teams have been constituted to cater to the medical needs of the devotees. Taking a serious note on overcharging the DDC directed SP Rural and Tehsildar Jammu to constitute special teams to check overcharging during the mela.He said that these teams will strictly ensure that rate lists of the items are displayed properly for the information of the general public. He also directed the concerned agencies for keeping vigil on the quality of food items being sold. The DDC asked the PDD to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity during the mela. He directed the traffic authorities to ensure proper management of traffic during the event and place proper sign boards for the convenience of the devotees
Other arrangements discussed during the meeting included adequate stock of ration and fire wood, accommodation of the devotees, making fire tenders available at the venue, setting up of stalls by various departments and conduct of various cultural programmes during the mela.
DDC emphasized on making this event a major religious and tourist attraction for the people visiting the state. He said that various programmes will be organised to showcase the art and culture of the state. Natrang would also stage a play on the life of Bawa Jitto.
