| Masood Chowdhary: Gujjar, Bakerwals lack basic amenities in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 30: The senior congress leader from Darhal-Budhal Advocate, Masood Chowdhary has deplored the miserable condition of Gujjars and Bakerwals in the state and has appealed to the Congress high command at center and state to take steps for conceding the most basic and constitutional demands of the community. As per press release he has said the major population of this tribe inhabits in mountainous and tough terrain regions where they lack the basic amenities of life. Chowdhary has appealed to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi demanded that keeping in view the third largest population in the state after Kashmiris and Dogras the Gujjar & Bakerwals must be included in any kind of dialogue the Government of India initiates with people for resolving problems of J&K. He said the community being staunch patriotic and followers of constitution of India will feel insulted if not taken into confidence while initiating any meaningful dialogue in the state. He said even after twenty years of being with scheduled tribe status the plight of community has not improved as desired. He demanded a high power central committee for assessing and auditing the implementation of scheduled tribe, related schemes and expenditure of tribal grants and funds in the state since 1990. He also demanded inclusion of Gojri languages in eight schedule of constitution of India on the pattern of Dogri and other recently included languages. Chowdhary further said that state government had set up gujjar hostels and mobile schools decades back but the progress of these institutions is dismal. He demanded that an annual audit of these institutions should be got conducted and progress should be assessed on the pattern of Kendriya Vidyalayas so that their actual benefit should reach the tribe.
