| Offer of Talks by PM a Good Omen: NC | | | SRINAGAR | OCT 30 Ruling National Conference today termed offer of talks made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the separatists as a "good omen" and appealed all concerned groups in Kashmir to respond positively to the call.
"We consider the offer to separatists as a good omen. We appeal them including both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF to respond positively to the offer," Senior NC leader and Rajya Sabha member Mohammad Shafi told reporters.
Shafi, with his colleague in Rajya Sabha G N Ratanpuri and other senior leaders, said NC also hailed the PM's offer of talks to Pakistan. He assured full cooperation of his party to the Centre in its talks with Pakistan and the separatists.
Shafi said his party's stand on Kashmir is clear that restoration of autonomy in its original shape was the best way to resolve the issue. However, if a better solution emerges during talks, NC would support such a solution.
He said that during a meeting with the Prime Minister his party demanded compensation to the state for Indus Water treaty (IWT) signed between India and Pakistan in 60's, revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and Disturbed Areas Act.
Shafi said NC also demanded relaxation in rules to allow more people to travel, speeding up the work on power projects being constructed by NHPC, employment package, completion of railway project from Qazigund to Udhampur, increase in ration quota and industrial package.
