| Perpetrators of violence should not be spared: Mangat | | Azad denies comment | | JAMMU, OCT 3 Distancing himself from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad's stand on Parliamant attack case convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, seniormost Congress leader and state Health and Medical Education Minister Mangat Ram Sharma today said perpetrators of violence should not be spared at any cost. "I do not agree with his (Azad) statement (on the issue). It is up to the apex court to decide," Sharma said when asked for comments on Azad's statement in favour of Presidential pardon for Afzal. "Perpetrators of violence and killers of innocents should not be spared at any cost. All of them should be hanged," Sharma told reporters at the end of a function here. However, he said, it should be left to the Supreme Court and lower judicary to delay the execution or change the death sentence of Afzal, slated to be hanged on October 20 in Tihar Jail. "Terming the protests in the Valley in support of Afzal "ridiculous", he said law be allowed to take its course. Meanwhile, Azad refused to comment on the issue when question by mediapersons at the end of Dussehra celebrations at the parade ground here last night. "I have nothing to say on this subject," the Chief Minister said when asked whether he stood by his statement on Afzal. "Ask anything else you like, but I will not say anything on Afzal's hanging," Azad said. |
