| SAD leaders apprised PM of problems of Sikhs | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 31: A delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Jammu Kashmir led by its president S. Gurcharan Singh Dutta and accompanied by S. Gurdev Singh, working president, S. Dayal Singh Wazir, general secretary and S. Amrik Singh, advocate called upon Dr. Manmohan Singh, prime minister, union of India at Srinagar during his two days visit to the valley. Deputy Chairman J&K legislative council S. Arvinder Singh Micky accompanied the delegates and apprised prime minister of the problems faced by sikh community of the state in general and of the valley in particular. He urged upon the prime minister to treat migrants of all communities from any part of militancy infested areas at par with Kashmiri Pandit Migrants from the valley and stressed upon the fact that sikh residing in Kashmir valley should be given package and special incentives and relief to maintain secular character of Kashmir. During the meeting Gurdev Singh presented factual state of affairs of about 10 lacs hindu/ sikh displaced persons of 1947 from Pakistan occupied Kashmir who are still awaiting their full and final rehabilitation even after lapse of over six decades. He urged upon the prime minister to fulfill commitments made during earlier two meetings on 15th July 2007 and 25th June 2008 and also in a meeting when he was on electioneering tour during election to J&K legislative assembly at Jammu when SAD placed before him a demand for payment of one time settlement/ compensation of Rs. 30.00 lacs for the movable and immovable property left behind in POK by the said displaced people. Prime Minister was apprised of the sentiments of the displaced persons who feel injustice is done to them by announcing a meager package of Rs. 49.00 crores for families for land deficiency. Dayal Singh Wazir on the occasion said that Sikhs be declared as minority community keeping in views the total strength of scattered population of Sikhs so that benefits of minority community starts flowing to Sikhs of the state as they are lagging behind other communities socially, economically and politically. As per press release prime minister was kind enough to listen patiently and also sought certain information concerning the said issues and also promised to resolve such issues in a reasonable manner at the earliest. Others who were present during meeting were Amrik Singh Sathi, Tarlochan Singh Bijral, Mohinder Singh Mirpur, Tarlok Singh, Mian Singh, Kesar Singh, Master Jagbir Singh and Avtar Singh.
