10/31/2009 10:14:14 PM

Early Times Report
Mendher, Oct 31: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded demining of the border areas of Poonch and Rajouri district because large numbers of people have already lost their lives and limbs due accidentally stepping in mine fields in the border areas.
Addressing a function at Mendher to start membership drive in this border town, PDP leader and MLA Mendher, Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan asked the state government to take up the issue with Defence authorities and got the border belt demined. He argued that in the presence situation when ceasefire has been going on the border it was necessary to demine all mines planted in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, party MLA from Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar Ali flayed the State Government for its failure to provide relief to the people affected by the worst ever draught. He said that majority of the population of Poonch and Rajouri districts has been facing hardship due to prolong draught but authorities at the helm of the affairs were casual in dealing with such a situation.
MLA Darhal while demanding a comprehensive relief package for the residents of Poonch and Rajouri, said that authorities should provide free ration to draught affected farmers of these two districts. He said that non availability of fodder for their cattle has further compounded woes of the people. He demanded a team of experts should be assigned the job to assess the total loss.
Party general secretary Thakur Balbir Singh, who presided over the function, threw light on the Self-Rule proposal of the party and said that this document has been prepared by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State. District president Hamid Manhas, Azam Sagar, Imtiyaz Bandey and other senior leaders spoke on the occasion
