| Omar wants employeeswarm, at ease in winters | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 31: Ahead of Darbar Move to winter capital, the first return of Omar Abdullah government to Jammu, the Chief Minister’s Political Advisor Devinder Rana today shuttled room to room in several employees’ colonies to check if they were arrangements for housing them comfortably. Rana’s visit will be followed by the Chief Minister’s visit in some of the colonies as Omar is reportedly keen in ensuring that employees have a cozy and comfortable winter ahead. Around 2350 employees, including some senior officers, moving with the biennial Darbar Move return to Jammu every November. According to officials, 303 gazzetted officers and 1719 non-gazzetted officers have been provided accommodation in Jammu. 14 gazzetted officers have been allotted accommodation in private houses besides 177 rooms in hotels and 112 rooms in TRC Jammu have been hired for accommodating government employees. A total of Rs. 36 crore is spent annually for accommodating employees in private houses, hotels and TRC which include boarding and lodging. Besides, 165 rooms, 261 kitchens and 353 bathrooms have been upgraded. Accompanied by MLA Poonch Mr. Aijaz Jan, District Development Commissioner Jammu, Mr. Manoj Dwivedi, Deputy Director Estates, Executive Engineer Estates and other officers Mr. Rana visited the Government quarters at Company Bagh, Old and New BC Road and Poonch House and minutely checked the works of whitewashing, minor repairs and cleanliness. He exhorted upon the Estate Officers to maintain the standard of the works of whitewashing and repairing of these quarters so that these quarters can give a good look to welcome the state’s machinery. He also directed for replacing worn-out electric cables and manholes to avoid any untoward incident. Rana said that Chief Minister has been taking keen interest in providing hassle-free stay to the darbar move employees and intends to personally visit to some colonies to review the works on annual cleaning/sanitation and maintenance.
