| Pak opposition alliance seeks debate on Kargil conflict | | | Islamabad, Oct 3 ( Pakistan's parliamentary opposition alliance, the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has announced a debate on the 1999 Kargil conflict in the National Assembly here.
The alliance yesterday submitted a draft for a motion in the National Assembly Secretariat seeking a debate on the ''revelations'' made by President Pervez Musharraf that Kargil conflict involved Pakistan army.
At least seventeen members of Ms Benazir Bhutto's People’s Party and Mr Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League have signed the draft motion, media reports said.
''It was stated by Pakistan that Kargil war was fought by the Mujahideen or freedom fighters with Indian armed forces. Now it has been revealed in the book titled ‘In the Line of Fire,’ written by Gen Pervez Musharraf that the war was fought by the Pakistan Army against the Indian forces,'' the motion states.
''This had shocked the nation as the Chief of the Army staff had confessed and conceded the statement on the subject given by India. The situation arising out of this fact has caused grave concern among the general public as it appeared to be taking a U- turn from the previous stand of Pakistan,'' the motions add.
