| Religious congregation held at Sant Ashram, Ranjrhi | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 2: Addressing a spiritual congregation of devotees coming from different states of the country at Sahib Bandgi, Sant Ashram, Ranjrhi, here today on the eve of Ashvin Purnima, Sadguru Madhu Paramhansji Maharaj said that the tradition of Guru- Shishya is an ancient trait of our history. All the saints and the scriptures not only accepted it but, they also attached a great significance to it. God-realization without initiation by a guru is still considered to impossible. It is said that, “Guru bin gat nahin”. Then where lies the mistake in adopting a Guru?”, he said and added that basic mistake in this context lies in adopting the guru just as a formality without going through his virtues and the “traits to qualify as a Guru. This is why a very large number of people have become ‘Guru’ these days. They have established their respective supremacies on various traditional seats and monasteries. It is a sorry state of affairs for our nation that these “Kalyugi Gurus” have polluted the very sacred Ganges of worship and devotion. The oriental stream of Sants (Santattva Dhara) holds that Guru should be adopted after due care and diligence after going through his virtue and the qualities. It holds that Guru should invariably possess the virtues of “Nirvasna” (free of all sorts of lust and sex), “Nirbandhan (free of any alliance with relatives), “Nirlobhi” (free of greed), “Saargrahi” (adopting the core essence), “Samdarshi” (giving equal treatment to all), Sarvagya (all knowing) and the one who is merged in the Supreme Being. Thus a guru has invariably to either to be a born-celibate or he should have snapped all ties with his wife etc. following self-relaization. He should have no family ties like son, wife etc. He should have no greed of money, material or other laurels and earn his own livelihood. He should treat everybody equally irrespective caste, creed or status or social standings. Even while being a master of scriptures, he should be concentrated on the supreme being-the essence of all. And above all, Satattva Dhara holds that a Guru has invariably possess “Paaras surti”- a spiritual virtue that can a crow like person to an eagle. He should be able to transform his disciple to divinity at will. The quintessential No guru is a guru without this spiritual power.
