| Promoting Gandhism: Other than the 'Lage Raho' way | | | New Delhi, Oct 2 It is not just 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' which can be credited with promoting the modern version of Mahatma's philosophy of truth and non-violence among Gen-next. A number of individuals and organisations all over the country are doing it in their own way.
While Dancer/ Choreographer Geeta Chandran has come up with a dance-dialogue on the theme of Ahimsa, veteran Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande has for years been organising competitions based on Gandhian themes.
The Sabarmati Ashram plans to show Gandhi-based films to young audience there by inculcating in them the value of non-violence. A number of websites and forums too have sprung up encouraging people to return to the Gandhian philosophies, as a way of life.
According to well-known Gandhian and Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra Nirmala Deshpande, the Gandhian ideals are becoming "more and more" relevant in the present world. "..Followers of Gandhism will only increase with people trying to find solace amid mounting of violence across the world. Many foreigners have already told me they find Mahatma's ideals an effective way to happiness," says the recipient of 14th Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award.
"In a way the recent attention given 'Gandhigiri' by politicians and through films is good. Atleast it compels people to think new ideas and render them inspiration," she adds. |
