| Rural areas to receive focused attention of government: Sham | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, November 03 - Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has said that road connectivity and education are the key ingredients to the development of the State and government is according focused attention to these two sectors. He said efforts are being made to connect all villages with the pucca road links to develop rural areas at par with the urban areas. The Minister was addressing largely attended public meetings at village Turgalla and Basawa in Akhnoor tehsil today. The Minister said that during the last 4-5 years massive development in all sectors in Akhnoor Constituency has been registered and efforts are on to develop ignored pockets of the segment. He sought people’s cooperation in implementing various State and centrally sponsored schemes so that the benefits of these schemes percolate down to the targeted group. He asked the people to personally monitor the development works which are under execution in their areas. Mr. Sharma apprised the gathering that two roads namely link road from main road to Turgalla Devsthan and main road to Basawa will be taken up for execution shortly. He asked the concerned agency to immediately start the work on Turgalla road, while as the Basawa road will be taken up after the clearance of the project by the Central Government as it involves a substantial amount of Rs 2.12 crore. These were the long pending demands of scores of villages, the Minister added. To overcome the scarcity of drinking water, 10 deep drilling hand pumps will be installed in Chowki Chowra areas. He said the possibilities of constructing tube wells in these areas will also be explored to get rid of the drinking water problems of the areas on permanent basis. He asked the officers to press tanker service in vulnerable areas. Mr. Sharma announced Rs. 1 lakh each for construction of community halls at Turgalla and Basawa from his Constituency Development Funds. He assured the people that all basic facilities will be provided to these villages. He said all lanes will be levelled and made pucca, besides power supply will be further augmented. He said funds are no constraints for the development schemes and all projects will be completed in the stipulated time frame, said Mr. Sharma. The Minister also visited Turgalla and Basawa Devsthans and paid obeisance and sought the blessings of Bua Datis. A large number of people thronged at these two places on the occasion of annual congregation of Patyar and Bral Biradhries. Health Department organized medical camp at Basawa and team of doctors treated a large number of patients. Similarly, the Horticulture Department also set up an awareness-cum-exhibition camp at the site for the benefits of the people of the areas. Pt. Thoru Ram and Mangal Sharma also addressed the gathering. Later the Bral Biradhri felicitated the Minister by offering him the traditional Dogra Turban.
