Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 05: Performing poorly, the Jammu and Kashmir women today suffered humiliating nine-wicket defeat in the hands of visiting Delhi side in the senior women’s inter-state one-day match played at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here.
Batting first, J&K set a target of 127 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, which, in reply, Delhi chased in 22.5 overs losing just one wicket.
Payal Choudhary played superb innings of 58 runs thereby keeping the one end intact. Despite her slow game, Payal hit seven boundaries. Roopali Slathia contributed 18 runs to the total. No other batswoman could touch the double figure mark. From Delhi, Reema Malhotra was most successful bowler with three wickets while Ambika Thakural took two.
Later, chasing an easy target of over two-run per over, Delhi overhauled the J&K total sparing 27.1 overs with nine wickets in hand. Anjum Chopra made 63-ball 57 runs including seven boundaries while Neha Tanwar contributed 41 runs to the total. The only wicket lost by Delhi was taken by Roopali Slathia.
Earlier, in the morning president of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Dr Farooq Abdullah had interaction with both the teams before he inaugurated the game. He was accompanied by Association chairman, Mohd Aslam Goni, working president, Ramesh Mahajan, ex-president, Ajatshatru Singh and finance committee member, Ranjit Kalra.
