| LEH FIRST TO LAUNCH NRHM | | |
JAMMU, October 04, 2006.
Leh(Ladakh) has become the first district in the Jammu and Kashmir State in launching National Rural Health Mission(NRHM). Under this programme Ladakhi women are being deployed as Health Worker called Accredited Social Health Activists(ASHAs). Instead of salary, these women will be given incentives on their working capacity. Recruitment process of ASHA in Leh district has already started and so far 214 ASHAs have been selected for the district and their training has started from the last week of September,2006. This was stated by Chief Medical Officer, Leh Dr. Dolma during an interaction with media persons during the recently held Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign which recently concluded successfully at Leh. The Campaign was launched in Leh by Press Information Bureau, Government of India in co-ordination with other media units of Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Dr. Dolma said that National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) was launched in Leh district in February this year and informed that work under the Mission was successfully going on in the district . She stated that efforts were being made to implement it in every village of Leh district. The Chief Medical Officer said that Grameen Yojnas have been started in Leh district and added that in the coming months these Yojnas will be implemented fully in the district. The National Rural Health Mission seeks to provide effective health-care to rural population throughout the country with special focus on 18 states including J&K which have weak public health indicators and weak infrastructure. The Mission has a provision of a female health activist in each village called “ASHA”. She will be a health activist in the community who will create awareness on health and its social determinants and mobilize the community towards local health planning and increased utilization and accountability of the existing health services. |
