| PM’s son-in-law, grandsons admitted to AIIMS on dengue suspicion | | | New Delhi, Oct 04: It is being reported that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s son-in-law and two grandsons – Madhav and Rohan - have been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on suspicion of dengue.
Madhav is 17 years of age and Rohan is 11. They were admitted to AIIMS yesterday evening. The preliminary tests for dengue have turned out to be positive. However, doctors are saying that more tests are being conducted to confirm the disease and all medical care is being administered.
Meanwhile, another person died of dengue today at the AIIMS, where 29 fresh cases were admitted, taking the total number of deaths in the national capital to 14.
Reshma, a resident of Meerut, succumbed to the deadly viral disease this morning, AIIMS Spokesperson Shakti Gupta said here.
He said 72 people are undergoing treatment for dengue at the hospital and 29 fresh cases were reported since yesterday.
Among the fresh cases, three are from the AIIMS campus. Three others have been discharged after treatment, he added.
Two deaths were reported from the capital yesterday as Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss called a meeting of the affected states but said there was no need for panic.
Bansi, a resident of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, who was being treated for dengue died at AIIMS last night, while another person, who has not been identified yet, succumbed to the disease at an East Delhi hospital.
Five cases of dengue in Allahabad; no death so far
Even as the outbreak of dengue in North India has become a cause of concern, five cases of the disease have been reported in this district so far.
However, no death due to dengue has been reported here.
Altogether five out of 15 samples collected in the last fortnight have been tested positive, head of the Microbiology Department at Swaroop Rani Hospital Anudita Bhargava said.
One of the positive results was reported today itself, she said adding she has not reported the matter so far to the Chief Medical Officer and was likely to do so today.
However, when contacted Superintendent-in-Chief of the SRN Hospital S T Imam pleaded ignorance about the dengue cases being reported at his hospital.
"Nobody has informed me about the cases so far," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Shanti Mall Singhvi said that though he was not aware of any dengue cases, if any such report comes he would take appropriate action.
47 dengue patients in East-Vidarbha
Forty-seven people were suffering from dengue in East-Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, official sources said.
"There were 35 patients in Nagpur district followed by 10 in Bhandara and two in Gondia", Dr N M Rathi, Assistant Director of Health Services, Maharashtra, told today.
"Our team had collected blood samples from affected villages and 47 samples tested positive", he said.
Meanwhile the cases of chikunguniya were on the decline, though not completely eradicated, Rathi.
6 suspected dengue cases reported from Haldwani
The Uttaranchal government today sounded an alert after six suspected dengue patients were hospitalised.
These patients at Haldwani Base Hospital complained of high fever and aches in joints, official sources said.
Senior doctors attending on the patients had collected blood samples from them which would be sent for tests to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in Delhi, a health official said.
Reports of dengue outbreak came after at least 17deaths due to a mysterious disease were reported from areas near Haldwani.
The government has also launched an awareness drive in the state to control the disease.
"We will send health teams across the state for the awareness drive," Health Secretary Alok Jain said.
Dengue: One dead, nine hospitalised in Kanpur
A woman died of dengue in the city and nine persons suspected to be suffering from the disease were hospitalised even as officials denied reports of the disease spreading to other parts of the state.
According to blood test reports, 10 persons were suffering from dengue out of which a woman, Chanda, died last night, Chief Medical Officer Vijay Shanker Singh said.
He said the nine dengue patients were admitted in various hospitals of the city where their condition was stated to be improving.
However, Health Department officials denied reports that the disease was spreading to other parts of the state.
Singh said the Health Department has been alerted and fogging work in the affected area was on.
He said arrangements for blood test and medicines for dengue patients were available in all state government hospitals.
68 dengue cases reported in UP
As many as 68 suspected cases of dengue have been reported from across the state during the past one month, Health Department officials said today.
Suspected cases of dengue have been reported from Lucknow, Agra, Ambedkarnagar, Hardoi and Saharanpur districts, they said adding that steps have been initiated to bring the situation under control.
Two people have died of dengue in the state till date.
Medicines have been provided at all the primary and community health centres. Control rooms were also being set up at district government hospitals.
Several people were undergoing treatment for the disease at private and government hospitals, the officials said.
Alarmed by the increase in dengue cases, the health directorate has asked all Chief Medical Officers to undertake fogging and sprinkling of insecticides.
Health Department officials have been asked to collect information about dengue patients in different parts of the state and take prompt action to control the situation.
People are being apprised with various precautions needed to be taken to check the disease, the officials said. |
