Present problems facing people are outcome of centre's policies, PDP

Srinagar Nov 5
Alleging that most problems being faced by the people in Kashmir valley today are the outcome of the Center's policies, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hamid fronts dismay over Home Minister P Chidambaram's latest announcement regarding continuation of the ban on prepaid mobiles in the state.
Mr Kara said instead of taking new initiatives towards the state's economic development, the National Conference (NC)-led government was discontinuing the pioneering initiatives taken by PDP-led coalition government.
He said the Centre must not only immediately reconsider its decision on prepaid ban, but also change this one-step-forward-ten-steps backward policy'' on Kashmir. Mr Kara said at a time when major political developments were shaping up in the state and the region, Kashmir needed a leadership that could stand up to the challenge. But, unfortunately, the present leadership governing the state seems to be faltering not only in its administrative duties, but on the political front as well.
Addressing a public meeting in the frontier district of Kupwara, he said. People's problems were mounting with each passing day, power supply position was worsening, unemployment was mounting, rations had become scarce, drinking water availability was deteriorating and nobody in the government seemed to be interested in addressing these issues. Even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram had during their recent visits to the state expressed dissatisfaction over the delivery of governance.
